Why do I need a vignette?
The Swiss vignette is mandatory for all vehicles up to 3.5 tons using the national motorway network. It serves as a toll system, allowing access to highways and expressways without the need for toll booths.
For how long is the vignette valid?
The vignette is valid for one calendar year, from December 1 of the previous year until January 31 of the following year (e.g., the 2025 vignette is valid from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2026).
Does a motorhome need a vignette?
If the motorhome weighs 3.5 tons or less, a standard vignette is required.
If the motorhome exceeds 3.5 tons, a heavy vehicle charge (LSVA) must be paid instead of a vignette.
What is the heavy vehicle toll (LSVA/PSVA)?
Swiss heavy vehicles (> 3.5 t) are assessed a distance-based toll—LSVA (goods transport) or PSVA (passenger/freight mix)—based on weight, emissions, and kilometres driven
Which vehicles are subject to it?
All Swiss and foreign registered trucks, buses, and trailers with gross vehicle weight over 3.5 t used on Swiss public roads must pay.
Approximate LSVA rates (2025-2026):
- Euro 0–5: 3.26 ct/tkm
- Euro I–III: 2.82 ct/tkm
- Euro VI: 2.39 ct/tkm
